The homeowner’s vision was to create a modern, light-filled space that maximised the beauty of the surrounding scenery, complemented by sophisticated yet functional lighting solutions. This stunning new build sits on the waterfront of Algies Bay, offering unparalleled views of Kawau Bay. Spanning two levels, the property features expansive floor-to-ceiling windows on the ocean-facing side, immersing the home in breathtaking seaside views.

Lighting Design Concept:

The unique architectural challenges of this home influenced the lighting design. With a roof constructed from panels that left no cavity for recessed lighting, innovative solutions were needed. Aluminium capping was installed along the ceiling joins, providing the perfect backdrop for surface-mounted luminaires. The goal was to create a seamless, unobtrusive lighting scheme that would blend effortlessly with the home’s modern aesthetic while illuminating key areas while being unobtrusive to the breathtaking ocean views.

ZELA décor Surface Mount
An innovative solution to the lack of ceiling cavity space, saw the Zela décor Surface Mount luminaire mounted onto the aluminium capping along the ceiling joins. Specified in textured black with a black inner trim, this combination provides a sleek design that complements the home’s modern architecture. Equipped with Switch Lighting’s sunset dimming chip, the Zela décor Surface Mount luminaires offer a gradual transition from cool, bright light to a warmer, softer glow, perfect for creating ambiance in the evenings. This dynamic lighting solution enhances the coastal atmosphere and accentuates the property’s stunning ocean views.

Mini-LIGHTZ Deep Fixed
In the additional spaces with the challenging ceiling cavity space, such as the kitchenette in the flat and the bathrooms, these recessed lights were integrated into the aluminium capping. The Mini-LIGHTZ Deep Fixed provide a focused illumination that is surprisingly bright considering the tiny form factor, yet warming to these spaces.

sLED Dome
These luminaires were installed downstairs, providing effective lighting solutions for the bedrooms and the self-contained flat, with their clean lines and efficient performance contributing to the overall crisp white aesthetic of the space.
